Cedar Valley Handbell Ensemble performs Arnold Sherman’s American Tapestry

Fifteen handbell musicians from eastern Iowa collaborated in concert with the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band performing all three of Arnold Sherman’s American Tapestry.  The ensemble was comprised of area handbell ringers and directors, all under the direction of Kevin Lodge, the director of music at St. Paul’s UMC in Cedar Rapids.  One of the movements of this piece is found on YouTube:

Iowa Composers in the Spotlight

Congratulations to Iowa Composers Cathy Moklebust and Chris Peck!

Cathy’s recent piece “I Will Arise and Go to Jesus” was commissioned by the Nebraska State Committee of the guild to honor the life of former Area 8 historian, and past national president, Mary Kettelhut.  This piece is published by Choristers’ Guild, and was given its public premier by the Agape Ringers from Chicago, under the direction of David Weck.  Listen to the piece here:http://www.cathymoklebust.net/NEW!.htm

Chris Peck’s new composition “American Salute” has been included in the Fall 2012 catalog of From the Top Publishing. Chris is the past-past Iowa State Chair for the guild.
